About
I'm George Hallwood. I've spent nine years working in dental magnification, and I've had more conversations about loupes than is reasonable for one person.
Most of what's written about loupes online is written by people selling them, including, to be fair, me. I run UK direct sales for Bryant Dental and I hold equity in the business. You should know that before you read anything else here, and you should weigh what I write accordingly.
This site exists because the questions I get asked every week don't have good answers anywhere public. What working distance should you actually be set at. Why 3.5x might be the wrong choice for you even though everyone says it's better. Why your neck still hurts after buying loupes that were supposed to fix it. Why the frame matters more than the optics for most clinicians. These get answered in sales conversations and then disappear.
So I'm writing them down. Practical, specific, and as honest as I can make it, including when the honest answer is that a competitor's product suits you better or that you don't need to upgrade at all.
I'm not a clinician. I don't diagnose your posture or prescribe your setup. What I have is volume: thousands of fittings, thousands of conversations, and a decent view of what actually goes wrong and why.
If something here is wrong, tell me. If you want to ask something directly, I'm most reachable on Instagram.
